22nd Annual Reindeer Run Charleston

The 22nd Annual Reindeer Run will be held on Saturday, December 1st as a kick-off of the holiday season. The Reindeer Run is presented by Piggly Wiggly and Half-Moon Outfitters and is a 5k run/walk that goes through the lower peninsula of downtown Charleston. Over the years, the Reindeer Run as grown from only a few hundred participants to over 3,200 runners last year. The race kicks off at 9:00 a.m. with runners starting first and walkers following right after. The Reindeer Run is a pet-friendly and kid-friendly race so be sure to bring your whole family!

The Reindeer Run starts at the front of Southend Brewery which is the official race headquarters. The race will have plenty of music, food and drinks for everyone to enjoy. Race participants will receive drinks and food including complimentary beer which will be served from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tickets for the Reindeer Run are $30 for adults and $20 for children who will be running and $25 for adults and $15 for children who will be walking. Registration after November 18th will result in an additional $5. Registration includes a free race t-shirt. For those participants that wish to bring their dog, it will be an extra $10 which will give you a special “doggie bag” for your pet to enjoy on race day.

The Reindeer Run’s route takes runners through the city of Charleston. There will be awards given based on age brackets. There are trophies for the top five places in various categories for children. The plaques are for the top three places in various age group brackets. The race awards will be held in front of Southend Brewery on the stage. After 11:00 a.m., there will be an after-party that will provide race participants with beer, Bloody Marys, appetizers and more at special happy hour prices until 2:00 p.m. Live entertainment will be provided by Charleston’s owned Cordovans.

The proceeds from the Reindeer Run are spilt between the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Children’s Hospital and the Charitable Society of Charleston (CSC). Throughout the history of the Reindeer Run, the Charitable Society of Charleston (CSC) has donated over $500,000 to MUSC and, in 2011, CSC donated $71,000 to the Children’s Hospital. The donated funds help MUSC develop and maintain a variety of programs including helping in the research and prevention of childhood diseases within the Department of Pediatrics.
