Nature-lovers and those on a family vacation with children should check out the Center for Birds of Prey. Charleston’s Center for Birds of Prey is a medical clinic for injured birds that also features educational and entertaining exhibits with these amazing birds. More than thirty different species of birds live at the center year-round. Tours through the Center for Birds of Prey are held on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays on at 10:30 am and 2 p.m. but a ticket for the tour gives visitors access to the center grounds for the whole day (10 a.m.- 5p.m.) This includes the tour and all the other great things to do including:

  • Guided tour through the grounds with information about these beautiful birds.
  • Flight demonstrations where these majestic birds will soar overhead. Guides will explain the various hunting and flying techniques of each bird.
  • Center grounds where these birds are housed. The ground feature open flying fields where birds can be seen in free flight and acting in their natural behaviors.
  • The Owl Woods- this special part of the center is dedicated to owls often considered “ambassadors for the natural world.” The owl woods offers day and night programs to teach about these expressive and interesting birds. Come and catch owls in free flight in the woods.

The center is located north of Charleston in the nearby Mt. Pleasant area by Seewee Bay. The short drive to the center is well worth it and tickets for the Birds of Prey Tour and more cost $12 for adults and $10 for children six to eighteen.  Stay at the Best Western in Charleston and have a family-friendly vacation with this great attraction.
